NHTSA: 2012 Volvo S60 earns five-star rating

ccording to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2012 Volvo S60 managed to earn a total of five stars in the combined crash score, even if the feds adopted more stringent guidelines and rigorous testing practices just last year, making it harder for cars to earn the five-star rating. The NHTSA said that the “new” Volvo S60 managed to earn five stars in frontal, rollover, side barrier and side pole crashes, becoming the eighth vehicle to be awarded with the NHTSA top rating for the 2012 model year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the other 2012 models so earn the five-star rating are the Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry, Saab 9-4X, Chevrolet Sonic, Chevrolet Camaro, Cadillac SRX and Cadillac CTS. 74 vehicles were tested by the NHTSA for the 2012 model year, including 22 SUVs, eight pickup trucks and two minivans.

As a reminder, the second generation of the Volvo S60 has been in production since 2010, and it’s coming with a choice of seven engines, starting with the 1.6L T3 petrol turbo unit and ending with the 2.4 liter D5 turbodiesel. The Volvo S60 is 182.2 inches long, 73.4 inches wide and 58.4 inches high, with a wheelbase of 109.3 inches.
